Green Burnaby

Urban. Natural. Plentiful Indeed.

Tally up the green space and the total exceeds 5,400 acres of protected beauty. Do the math yourself: 1 football field equals 1.32 acres. 5,400 acres equals 4,090 of them. Our network of parks (158 in all) and labyrinthine trail system and equally splendid ‘blue ways’ (i.e. lakes, rivers, streams) are a natural treasure.

Some of the land is made of forest and ravine; home to rabbit, deer, squirrel, coyote, raccoon and multitudinous birds of a feather. The other part is manicured by the loving hands of park staff as they cut and crop, prune and shape the picturesque rolling grassland -- dotted with park benches and hikers, strollers and all-weather enthusiasts. Collaborative ventures with organizations such as Streamkeepers keeps our City environmentally healthy and rich. No pesticides please!

Now breathe deep and dream green – nature is a glorious reality in Burnaby.
