(July 16, 2009) – Maclean’s magazine has named the City of Burnaby as the “Best Run City in Canada” based on a newly released survey. The magazine’s first annual Best (and Worst) Run Cities report highlights Burnaby, B.C. as the model city for the rest of Canada municipalities to aspire to. Burnaby received top marks for economic development, environmental health, culture and recreation.

The municipality report was conducted by the Atlantic Institute for Market Studies. According to Maclean’s, cities across Canada were evaluated through a comprehensive list of criteria of vital interest to the public including: fire services, road conditions, garbage collection, policing, public transit and taxation levels to determine Canada's best- and worst-run cities. The study also takes into account factors such as socio-economic status and population.

Burnaby was one of three B.C. cities in the top four. The other two are Vancouver and Surrey.
