Park Bylaws
Common sense is the best guideline in enjoying our parks while respecting the rights of others. Please obey posted signs, rules and regulations. Where cycling is permitted, cyclists and rollerbladers are asked to be aware of pedestrians and surrender the right of way. Likewise, dog owners must keep their pets under control and on leash outside of designated off-leash areas.
A number of the regulatory bylaws are applicable to our parks system. They are designed to ensure the safety and comfort of parks users while also guaranteeing our freedom to enjoy these green spaces without disruption.
- One key regulation is the Animal Control Bylaw, which dictates where precisely dog-owners can allow their pets to romp off-leash.
- The Noise or Sound Abatement Bylaw curbs anyone making a racket that “disturbs, or tends to disturb, the quiet, peace, rest, enjoyment, comfort, or convenience” of citizens. With this in mind, please keep the volume as low as possible on all portable sound systems.
- The Firearm Regulation Bylaw states that no person shall discharge firearms within the municipality, and this includes air guns, air rifles, air pistols and spring guns.
A series of bylaws annually set standardized user fees and booking rates for anyone using public facilities, notably our network of recreation centres and parks. Specific bylaws also set green fees for adults, seniors and juniors at Burnaby Mountain and Riverway Golf Courses as well as fees for booking public spaces at the Shadbolt Centre for the Arts, Burnaby Art Gallery and Burnaby Village Museum.
