Multi-Family Yard Trimmings & Food Scraps Guidelines

Beginning Fall 2011, the City will expand its Food Scraps Recycling Program to Multi-Family complexes currently receiving City garbage and recycling service.

The City of Burnaby provides weekly collection of yard trimmings for Mutli-family complexes using a semi-automated truck and designated Green Bins.  Please follow the guidelines below or download a copy of the Multi-Family Recycling Guide.

Collection Reminders

  1. Do not bag or bundle yard trimmings, they must go loose inside the Green Bin.
  2. Do not put garbage, plastic bags or other non-organic material in the Green Bin.
  3. Do not overfill Green Bin, it will not be collected.
  4. Wrap Your Scraps! Wrap food scraps in paper-based products only (e.g. newspaper, paper bag or cereal box). DO NOT use plastic or “plastic-like” degradable bags.
  5. Extra yard trimmings can be dropped off to Burnaby’s Yard Waste Depot, 4800 Still Creek Avenue. Residents can drop off up to 100kg free of charge per day.
  6. Learn about Burnaby’s Food Scraps Recycling Program
