Registering Your Property as a Film Location

How Do I Get My Home in the Movies?

Start by photographing your property and registering it with the BC Film Commission or the Burnaby Film Office.

Find out how to Register Your Property as a Location and understand the Guidelines for Filming on Your Property. Thousands of locations throughout BC are represented in our photo library are and made available to producers interested in filming anywhere in British Columbia.

The following outlines the usual location process:

  • A location scout “breaks the script down” into the number and type of locations needed for some or all of the scenes in the script.
  • The scout then searches the photo library for properties and locations that best match the character of the script.
  •  If these cannot be found in the library, the scout then searches for and photographs suitable locations.

The City of Burnaby Film Office would like to offer photo files via internet. Please forward your digital photos. Email: filming@burnaby.ca

What Happens When a Producer is Interested in My Property?

Your entire home or part of your home such as a room or the exterior may be considered for a film project. A location scout or location manager will contact you if your property is being considered for film or television projects to be shot in the province. Before you release pertinent information about your property, ask for details about the production. If you have any doubts, please call the BC Film Commission or Burnaby Film Office and we can confirm the validity of the project.

Please Note: Although this information refers specifically to homes, the information provided can be used as a guideline to register all types of properties including commercial, residential and rural.
