Traffic

Who We Are

The Traffic Division is responsible for the activities that occur on our city streets.  Alongside traffic and traffic related programming, we work hard to maintain a database of traffic counts in the City to support our services.

What We Do

We are responsible for traffic flow on Burnaby roads and for ensuring that street lighting, traffic and parking signs, road markings and pedestrian crossings are properly and safely placed.

We design and maintain the traffic signal system, and assess and review traffic, parking and pedestrian controls.

We also control activities which occur on City Streets:

  • Grant oversize/over height truck permits
  • Approve lane closure requests for construction
  • Coordinate traffic control for special events such as parades, fun runs, block parties, and for TV or movie filming
  • Manage parking programs, parking meters, and parking bylaw enforcement
  • Install bus shelters, benches and bike racks on boulevards

For Bylaw information: on the Street & Traffic Bylaw No. 4299, the Parking Meter Bylaw No. 10605, and the Graffiti Bylaw No. 12294, please visit City Clerks.
