With or without ice, join us year-round and be active

This multi-purpose arena is home to an NHL-sized ice rink for hockey, lacrosse, tournaments and special events. Enjoy skating lessons, public skating and other ice sports during fall and winter. In the spring and summer look out for aterschool sport programs, lacrosse and summer camps!

You can register for skating lessons 30 days in advance of the lesson start date at 10 am if you are a Burnaby resident, or 27 days in advance at 10 am if you are not.

Facility features

  • Ice Rink - NHL-sized rink with 1984 seating capacity
  • Skate rental shop
  • Lakeview Room - 84 sq. m. and can accommodate up to 35 people for a seated event, 40 people theatre style
  • Warm-side arena viewing
  • Concession for special events

You can rent hockey and figure skates at our shop for a fee. Helmets are available at no charge. Bill Copeland has skating assists available for people with disabilities.

Skate Shop is open during skating lessons and drop-in skates.

Our Toonie Skate admission fee includes skate and helmet rental available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Please note: A CSA-approved hockey helmet is mandatory for all skate lessons and for children 12 years and under.

A person 16 years of age or older must accompany children 7 years of age or younger on the ice or floor. The ratio of child to accompanying persons must be no greater than 3 to 1. We recommend that as parents, you don't leave your children under 10 years of age unaccompanied at our facility. For children 12 years and under, a CSA-approved helmet is mandatory.

We accept rental requests for the following spaces:

  • Lakeview Room

Deadlines:

  • Fall/winter arena rental (ongoing seasonal training or games): April 7, of the current year
  • Spring/summer arena rental (ongoing seasonal training or games): November 7, of the previous year
  • Fall/winter special events: March 31, of the current year
  • Spring/summer special events: October 31, of the previous year

Birthday parties: 

  • Birthday parties are available on Saturdays from September 13-December 13 (no booking November 8) during public skate from 1:30-3:30 pm. Maximum 30 participants per birthday party.

Parking

There are 6 designated parking stalls. These are located in the south parking lot in the back of the Bill Copeland Arena along Sperling Avenue. 

Entry/Interior Access

  • Barrier free entry through the main entrance doors 
  • Ice Rink is accessible for participants and spectators.
  • Elevator access to the second floor.

Washrooms

  • Accessible washrooms are provided on each floor.
  • All dressing rooms have accessible showers.

Last paid admission 30 minutes before closing. Everyone must promptly exit the building at facility closing time.

Parking

Free parking is available. Additional parking is behind the building on the east side located across Sperling Avenue. Please note that part of the east parking lot will be closed. See map for details.

The 2 current electric vehicle charging stations will not be in service while the parking lot is under construction. Visit Burnaby.ca/EV to find alternative EV charging station locations. More information will be shared as it becomes available. 

Accessibility

Bill Copeland Arena has ice sledges, skating assists and ice scooters available during the fall and winter season for people with disabilities. There are also accessible washrooms, elevators, parking, accessible viewing spaces.
