This will provide contractors, builders and home owners with information concerning methods to install two pipe drainage systems in single family dwellings, two family dwellings and townhouses.

Additional Requirements

  • patio drainage may be directed to the rain water leader piping through a minimum 12 inch diameter sand trap.
  • storm sump sizes are as follows:
    • 24 inch diameter up to 6 feet in depth (top to bottom)
    • 30 inch diameter over 6 feet in depth
  • approved solid storm water piping for slab above grade floors must be laid on a 6 inch bed of drain rock or gravel. The drain rock or gravel must extend around the entire perimeter of the house and terminate at an opening into the storm sump. This will facilitate any surface water drainage.

Note: Perimeter drainage systems requiring pumping.

  1. R.W.L. piping system must be gravity installed.
  2. Sump pump pit and pump must be designed by a registered professional who is retained to undertake design work and field review and who must provide letters pursuant to the current edition of the British Columbia Building Code.
