Summer Sundays at Civic Square
Burnaby, BC - The City of Burnaby is launching a new summer cultural initiative. An outdoor performance series; “Summer Sundays at Civic Square” will take place every Sunday from 1:00pm-4:00pm from June 1st through August 24th at Burnaby’s Civic Square/Metrotown. Performances will be scheduled rain or shine.
Civic Square is located in the heart of Metrotown’s commercial and high density residential district at Willingdon Avenue and Central Boulevard beside the Bob Prittie Library. Since completion in 1991, the venue has been used for public events, community gatherings and celebrations. It includes a large open grassy area surrounded by beautifully manicured gardens and a covered stage.
Appropriate for all age groups, the program showcases local talent. It is hoped that this initiative will “people” the site and generate positive interest in and attendance at this urban venue and increase library attendance. While visitors stroll through Civic Square to or from Bob Prittie Library or area shops and malls, they will also enjoy a variety of cultural performances from local and regional artists. The free-admission “Summer Sundays at Civic Square” pilot project is managed by Burnaby’s Cultural Services Division.
