Burnaby's social planning activities are primarily focused on the social or human aspects of planning and development in the city. Social planning activities fall into four broad areas:
-
Social Policy and Advocacy - developing policies and making recommendations to senior governments to address identified social needs in Burnaby (e.g., concerning child care, human service needs, and other matters)
-
Physical Environment - ensuring that social needs are recognized and, as appropriate, addressed in the planning of the built environment (e.g., requiring inclusion of child care facilities or community meeting space in major new developments)
-
Special Needs Housing - facilitating development of housing for Burnaby residents who, for varying reasons, have special needs (e.g., physical disabilities, continuing health care, child protection)
-
Human Services Planning - facilitating establishment of appropriate human services to meet the needs of a growing and changing population. |
