City of Burnaby Named "Best Run City in Canada" Maclean’s magazine has named the City of Burnaby as the “Best Run City in Canada” based on a newly released survey. The magazine’s first annual Best (and Worst) Run Cities report highlights Burnaby, B.C. as the model city for the rest of Canada municipalities to aspire to. Central Valley Greenway Opening Celebrations The Central Valley Greenway officially opens Saturday June 27, 2009. A family-friendly celebration will run from 12 noon to 3 p.m. at the Winston Overpass near Sperling-Burnaby Lake SkyTrain station. Information Bulletin to Burnaby Residents: Kinder Morgan Canada Burnaby Terminal - Oil Spill Incident At approximately 10:00 p.m. PDT, Wednesday, May 6th, 2009, a Kinder Morgan Canada contractor discovered crude oil being released from a tank inside its Burnaby Terminal located at 7815 Shellmont Street, Burnaby, B.C. Kinder Morgan Canada took actions to ensure that the release was contained inside the lined tank bay and that all necessary regulatory agency notifications were completed.
The Burnaby Fire Department have attended the site. Kinder Morgan Canada has made assurances that there is no concern for public safety.

Provincial Prison Proposed for Burnaby The Provincial Government has announced that it intends to build a prison for up to 700 inmates in Burnaby at Canada Way and Willingdon Avenue. Mayor D. Corrigan has advised the Provincial Government of B.C. that Burnaby City Council is opposed to the construction of a new Provincial Prison in Burnaby.
