Indoor Pools Re-open as Part of Burnaby’s Restart

Burnaby, BC – Most indoor pools in Burnaby are now open as part of the City’s ongoing restart plan.

The CG Brown Memorial Pool, including the weights and cardio fitness room, re-opens today, as well as pools at the Edmonds Community Centre and the Eileen Dailly Leisure Pool & Fitness Centre. Bonsor Recreation Complex will remain closed due to ongoing maintenance.

“We’ve created a plan to keep staff and patrons safe when they get back in the water,” said Mayor Mike Hurley. “Swimming is more than just a classic summer activity — it is an important life skill and a great way to stay in shape for people of all ages.”

Advanced booking is required at each facility, with no drop-ins allowed. Burnaby residents can book their sessions online up to seven days in advance online, or by calling:

Public, Family and Lap swimming is available at all three pools. No lap lanes are available during Public and Family Swims.

Safety precautions are in effect. Patrons are expected to change into their swim suits before arriving at the pool, and be prepared to leave without changing at the end of the swim session. There is limited access to change rooms and washrooms. Physical distancing will be enforced — anyone not following safety guidelines or directions from staff will be asked to leave.

Several amenities, such as waterslides, hot tubs, saunas and steam rooms are unavailable. Swimming lessons and aquafit classes will not be offered at this time. To learn more about what is open at each facility, visit our Community Centres page.
