New penalties for people entering closed parks facilities

Under the guidance of public health officials in B.C., the City of Burnaby closed public facilities including recreation and cultural facilities, playgrounds and sports facilities to help limit the spread of COVID-19.

This is an important step to protect public health. That’s why the City is stepping up enforcement by issuing Bylaw Violation Notice and a $500 penalty to people caught using or entering a closed facility. This includes all playing fields, tennis courts, basketball courts, baseball diamonds, lacrosse boxes skate parks and disc golf.

Our parks and trails remain open, however we remind visitors to maintain physical distancing of 2 metres between yourself and others at all times.
