Eco-Centre
Eco-Centre Remains Open
Burnaby’s Eco-Centre is still open daily 8am-4pm. Cash is currently not being accepted for payments (only interact or credit card). We are limiting the number of patrons allowed inside the facility to assist with physical distancing. Therefore, you may experience delays entering the Eco-Centre. For the safety of everyone, please keep 2 metres between yourself and others when dropping off your items.
Burnaby’s Eco-Centre is a staffed, self-serve public facility where Burnaby residents can take larger volumes of materials accepted in the City's recycling program, green waste for composting and some toxic materials that may be harmful to our environment.

Used Cooking Oil Recycling
When fats, oils and grease from food preparation and cooking get put down the drain it can plug drain lines and eventually clog the sewer system. Grease build-up in sewers may cause them to overflow, potentially damaging homes, businesses and the environment. Don't pour cooking oil down the drain, collect used cooking oil in a plastic container, and when full, drop it off for recycling at the City's Eco-Centre.
Composters & Rain Barrels
You can reduce waste and conserve drinking water by using a backyard composter and installing a rain barrel for watering gardens. These can be purchased at Burnaby’s Eco-Centre.
Composters
Yard and garden trimmings, along with fruit and vegetable peelings, can be composted at home in your own backyard. You'll make your own rich soil amendment, which is great for gardening. Composters are available from the Yard Waste Depot for $30 each (includes tax). Download a copy of Here’s the Dirt: Guide to Backyard Composting.
Rain Barrels
With lawn watering restrictions in effect from May 1 to October 15, give yourself greater watering flexibility and give your plants the gift of warm, un-chlorinated and oxygen-rich water. Purchase a City of Burnaby Rain Barrel today, while quantities last. Each rain barrel holds up to 341 litres of water, and is specially priced at $100.00 (including tax).
