Program Extends to 2021

The City of Burnaby is continuing to support local business during the COVID-19 pandemic, by extending the Active Sidewalks, Open Businesses Program to October 31, 2021.

Business Expansion 

Active Sidewalks, Open Businesses program is a simple, expedited process to assist local businesses during the COVID-19 pandemic. Burnaby businesses can apply to temporarily (until October 31, 2021), add outdoor seating or otherwise expand into adjacent outdoor spaces. The extra space can provide more room for patrons to maintain physical distancing.  

How to Apply

New Applicants

  1. Fill out the appropriate Application Form
     » Is your expansion on City (public) property? Review the Guidelines and fill out this Application Form
     » Is your expansion on private property? Fill out this Application Form
  2. Send us your application. Remember to include your site plan that shows distances, dimensions and the layout of structures, chairs, tables and other appurtenances in the area. Email to:
