Permissive Tax Exemptions

Section 224 of the Community Charter, gives Council the authority to exempt certain land and/or improvements from municipal property taxes. Council considers Permissive Tax Exemptions for non-profit organizations that contribute to the well being of City residents, that make improvements to the quality of life for residents, and/or are an extension of City services.

Permissive tax exemption guidelines (Part 1 and Part 2) are intended to provide consistent and equal treatment and consideration for all applicants.

An application must be completed every year and must be accompanied by the most recent financial documentation required. The deadline for applications to be received by the Tax Office is April 30 of each year. To be eligible for a permissive tax exemption an organization must comply with the guidelines and be approved by Council.
