Better At Home

Better at Home is a program to help seniors to live in their own homes longer by providing simple non-medical support services. The program is funded by the Government of British Columbia and managed by the United Way of the Lower Mainland (UWLM).

In 2016, the Burnaby Better at Home Program provided more than 4,000 service moments for:

Now that my aunt has been placed in a care home, I would like to take a minute to thank the Better At Home staff for all your help over the past three years. Better At Home, coupled with Fraser Health Home Support, enabled her to spend an extra three years in her own apartment – where she wanted to be – and I thank you sincerely for providing this service. Keep up the good work!

– Shelly

I would like to express my sincere appreciation as a caregiver for the support I received from the two programs Ken was involved in. It became very difficult for me, as an elder myself, to look after Ken's medical appointments, food shopping and housekeeping. The subsidized support made the difference of Ken being able to stay home semi-independently for almost a year.

The work the City of Burnaby does helping seniors staying in their own home with quality of life is truly valuable. This value is not just for the senior and obviously for the benefit of their extended family, but it makes your community a richer one. My Aunt was a fortunate recipient of the programs you offer. It helped her until age 95 stay in her home 4-5 years beyond what she would have otherwise been able to manage.
