Hot Weather in Store for Southwestern BC

While hot and sunny conditions are welcomed news for most, Environment and Climate Change Canada and Medical Health Officers are reminding residents to take precautions to protect themselves from the heat. Keep cool by:

  • Spending time in an air-conditioned facility (such as a shopping centre, library, community centre or restaurant) for at least several hours every day.
  • Dress for the weather by wearing loose, light-weight clothing. Protect yourself from the sun by wearing a wide-brimmed hat and sunglasses.
  • Avoid sunburn, stay in the shade or use sunscreen with SPF 30 or more
  • NEVER leave children or pets alone in a parked car.
  • Check in on others - People living alone are at high risk of severe heat related illness.

Curious about voting and registration for the 2018 local government election?


Eligible Burnaby voters will elect:

  • one (1) Mayor
  • eight (8) City Councillors
  • seven (7) School Trustees
  • answer Community Opinion Questions (dedication of parklands)

Who Can Vote?

Burnaby residents, who are:

  • 18 years or older on Election Day
  • Canadian citizen
  • Resident of British Columbia for at least six months before Election Day (April 19, 2018)
  • Resident of Burnaby for at least 30 days before Election Day (September 19, 2018)
  • Not disqualified from voting by any statute or law

If you own property in Burnaby, but do not live in the City, you may be eligible to vote in the 2018 Burnaby Local Government Election. More information »

Am I Registered to Vote?

Please contact Elections BC to find out if you are registered to vote, to register as a voter, or to update your voter registration.

Eligible voters will also have an opportunity to register in person on the voting day.

When and Where Can I Vote?

Vote anywhere! In October 2018, eligible voters can cast their ballot on:

Advance Voting Dates - October 6, 10, 13, 2018 from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM at the following locations:

  • Edmonds Community Centre
  • Cameron Recreation Complex
  • Willingdon Community Centre
  • Bill Copeland Sports Centre
  • Metropolis at Metrotown

Election Day - Saturday, October 20, 2018 from 8:00 AM to 8:00PM at any one of the 34 convenient voting locations. (Map coming soon)
