Automated Garbage & Yard Trimmings Collection
The City of Burnaby provides a fully automated garbage and yard waste collection service to approximately 35,000 single and two-family properties.
Residents use specially designated wheeled containers — black for garbage, green for yard trimmings / food scraps — to set out their material for collection.
On collection day: Set it. Point it. Space it. Bring it back in.
It is important to set out your garbage, yard trimmings / food scraps and recycling containers correctly for collection. Place your containers so that there is approximately one metre (three feet) of space on all sides, and three metres (10 feet) clearance above.
- Set it out by 7:00 AM in the lane or street you use on collection day
- Point it — Place containers so the arrows on the lid point towards the centre of the lane or street (handles will face your property)
- Space it — Place your containers so there is approximately one metre (three feet) of space on all sides and at least three metres (10 feet) of clearance above
- Bring it back in— After your containers have been emptied, remember to remove them from the lane or street and roll them back to your property
