The BC Recreation and Parks Association (BCRPA) presented its Facility Excellence Awards for 2015 to the City of Burnaby for Edmonds Community Centre and Fred Randall Pool. The award recognizes excellence in facility concept, design development, maintenance or operation in a facility that demonstrates outstanding innovation and significant impact in the recreation and parks sector.

Together, the breadth and variety of indoor and outdoor amenities that make up Edmonds Community Centre creates a focal community space that encourages and inspires active and healthy living along with connections for all ages while serving the unique needs of the community.

The role of the centre extends beyond a recreational and cultural facility to be a significant neighbourhood gathering place. Edmonds Community Centre acts as a magnet for everyone from birth to seniors, from different cultures and from different demographics. This community connection happens both through the Centre’s planned structured programs and services as well as through spontaneous, unstructured leisure activities.

The BCRPA recognized Edmonds Community Centre and Fred Randall Pool for its unique design, community consultation, service to the public, awareness of the environment and commitment to accessibility.
