Empire Drive Upgrade Project

Empire Drive 3D Rendering

Empire Drive in North Burnaby is proposed to be upgraded in 2021 to improve the safety of everyone who travels along this road, whether they walk, cycle, drive or take transit. This project extends approximately one kilometre between Hastings Street (at Howard Avenue) and North Gamma Avenue. Empire Drive connects Confederation Park in the west, Trans Canada Trail to the north, and Hastings Street and the Francis Street bike route to the south. The project will provide curbs and gutters, landscaping, a sidewalk and an urban trail for cyclists and pedestrians.

Current Status

We are currently at the conceptual design stage and seeking public input. A public open house was held on June 11 at Confederation Park Elementary to gather comments on the conceptual design and determine where improvement could be made and to identify areas of concerns. The feedback will be taken into consideration when developing the detailed design. Further public consultations will be scheduled as necessary.
