Hot Weather in Store for Southwestern BC

While hot and sunny conditions are welcomed news for most, Environment and Climate Change Canada and Medical Health Officers are reminding residents to take precautions to protect themselves from the heat. Keep cool by:

  • Spending time in an air-conditioned facility (such as a shopping centre, library, community centre or restaurant) for at least several hours every day.
  • Dress for the weather by wearing loose, light-weight clothing. Protect yourself from the sun by wearing a wide-brimmed hat and sunglasses.
  • Avoid sunburn, stay in the shade or use sunscreen with SPF 30 or more
  • NEVER leave children or pets alone in a parked car.
  • Check in on others - People living alone are at high risk of severe heat related illness.

In collaboration with the Burnaby School District #41 and inspired by the 2015 Capture Photography Festival, this year's exhibition highlights works by elementary students who explore the theme of "capturing a moment." Join us for an evening celebrating elementary student artwork. The evening features live music by Burnaby South string ensemble “Quintessence” and an in-house photobooth (try out long exposure photography and create a painting with light)! Be sure to hashtag your photos with #bbyartsalive2015. The evening is sponsored by David' Tea (Brentwood).

Come and make art! Get your minds humming with a visit to the gallery and then the studio for family-friendly art projects. A different project featured each month. All ages. Free drop-in.

Mixed Media Photo Art Workshop: Sunday, April 26, 12-5pm
Using photography-inspired techniques from the gallery's exhibition, students explore the theme of "capturing moments" to create their very own photo-based mixed media art. Explore smart phone apps, Instagram photography, photo transfer techniques, drawing, painting, printmaking and collaging to create your very own portfolio of mixed media work. $55, 13-18 years. Art Gallery Tour & Workshop - Homelearners: Wednesday, May 6, 12:30-2:30pm
Our interactive gallery tours are followed by a studio project that brings key ideas from the exhibit to life. Studio theme: Monoprinting and relief making. $16, 6-14 years. Registration code: 360701
