Arts Alive 2020: Virtual Exhibition

Arts Alive 2020 is an annual showcase of student works held in collaboration with the Burnaby School District. Highlighting works by secondary students, this year’s 38th edition presents a selection of artworks from eight schools across the city.

Working through an initial process with teachers, the Burnaby Art Gallery has chosen over fifty artworks to represent the talents of each school in this virtual exhibition. The result is a collection of work representing the depth, breadth and extraordinary talents of students across the district.

Relating to their projects, students were invited to answer a number of questions about their work. Then, as a part of the juried process, students presented with their submissions, one question and response, which are featured here alongside their works of art.

Arts Alive Activity Guide: Create a postcard as a response to your observations and discussions about an exhibited artwork! Experience in-depth exploration of artist styles, materials and techniques.

The Burnaby Art Gallery would like to acknowledge the time and dedication of the participating teachers from across the Burnaby School District and the following volunteers:

  • Selection Panel: Judi Marshall and Brenda van Engelen
  • Photography and Documentation Students: Davide Lauro and Ian Kim

This project would not have been possible without the generous support of the following organizations: the Burnaby School District, the BC Arts Council and the City of Burnaby.
