Hot Weather in Store for Southwestern BC

While hot and sunny conditions are welcomed news for most, Environment and Climate Change Canada and Medical Health Officers are reminding residents to take precautions to protect themselves from the heat. Keep cool by:

  • Spending time in an air-conditioned facility (such as a shopping centre, library, community centre or restaurant) for at least several hours every day.
  • Dress for the weather by wearing loose, light-weight clothing. Protect yourself from the sun by wearing a wide-brimmed hat and sunglasses.
  • Avoid sunburn, stay in the shade or use sunscreen with SPF 30 or more
  • NEVER leave children or pets alone in a parked car.
  • Check in on others - People living alone are at high risk of severe heat related illness.

Ben Frey produces meticulous illustrations and paintings on paper that draw from literary and fantasy sources, with diverse origins of inspiration such as traditional western tattoo design, children’s books, political and cartoon imagery. Produced over the past four years, this sampling of works makes up a darkly comical selection representative of these interests.

Ben Frey graduated from Capilano University’s Design and Illustration program in 2007. He has illustrated three children’s books with Annick Press and Simply Read Books, and has been published in Discorder Magazine, The Walrus Magazine, and The Globe and Mail. His work has been exhibited in Vancouver, Toronto and Berlin. Ben is currently working on a new collection of drawings to self-publish in a book, due 2015.

Get ready for a spooky surrealist evening out! The collaborative, chance-based drawing game known as the “Exquisite Corpse” puts your imagination to the test as you create nonsensical and often hilarious drawings. Admission is free but seating is limited; call 604-297-4422 to reserve your spot. 19 years & up. Event will be facilitated by artist, Ben Frey.
