Hot Weather in Store for Southwestern BC

While hot and sunny conditions are welcomed news for most, Environment and Climate Change Canada and Medical Health Officers are reminding residents to take precautions to protect themselves from the heat. Keep cool by:

  • Spending time in an air-conditioned facility (such as a shopping centre, library, community centre or restaurant) for at least several hours every day.
  • Dress for the weather by wearing loose, light-weight clothing. Protect yourself from the sun by wearing a wide-brimmed hat and sunglasses.
  • Avoid sunburn, stay in the shade or use sunscreen with SPF 30 or more
  • NEVER leave children or pets alone in a parked car.
  • Check in on others - People living alone are at high risk of severe heat related illness.

Opening Reception and Book Launch: Thursday, July 2, 7-9pm

The gallery is honoured to present a wonderful collection of Jack Akroyd paintings and drawings as a tribute to a highly skilled artist who documented his surroundings with meticulous detail and a personal, almost humorous touch. Works shown are from the City of Burnaby’s Permanent Art Collection as well as works on loan in a variety of media. is an exhibit is in conjunction with the eighth book in The Unheralded Artists of BC series, The Life and Art of Jack Akroyd by Peter Busby.

Opening Reception and Book Launch: Thursday, July 2, 7-9pm
Join us for the opening reception at the Burnaby Art Gallery. The evening will feature opening remarks, The Life and Art of Jack Akroyd book launch, followed by a reception in our Fireside Room.This is also the opening night of Robert Bigelow: Daily Practice. Beer sponsored by Steamworks Brewery.
