Hot Weather in Store for Southwestern BC

Posted July 13, 2018

While hot and sunny conditions are welcomed news for most, Environment and Climate Change Canada and Medical Health Officers are reminding residents to take precautions to protect themselves from the heat. Keep cool by:

  • Spending time in an air-conditioned facility (such as a shopping centre, library, community centre or restaurant) for at least several hours every day.
  • Dress for the weather by wearing loose, light-weight clothing. Protect yourself from the sun by wearing a wide-brimmed hat and sunglasses.
  • Avoid sunburn, stay in the shade or use sunscreen with SPF 30 or more
  • NEVER leave children or pets alone in a parked car.
  • Check in on others - People living alone are at high risk of severe heat related illness.

Randall Anderson: Noticings
May 2-July 10
Bob Prittie Library

This Burnaby Art Gallery Offsite Exhibition presents work from multi-disciplinary artist Randall Anderson’s series, Noticings (2006-2008). These works are made by turning found bulletin board notices over and collaging them together. The notices have been placed following their original layout (i.e. horizontal or vertical), and they are presented as they were, with no additional tabs removed.

The Noticings series was initiated while Randall Anderson was enrolled in the MFA program at Montreal’s Concordia University. He realized that, with the introduction of so many new digital platforms, noticeboards were becoming an outmoded form of communication. Many notices that at one time would have appeared on multiple campus noticeboards were now reaching wider audiences on websites like Craigslist and Kijiji. In this series, Anderson has re-purposed these physical notices by creating layered collages that are each evocations of their time and place.

Randall Anderson is a multi-disciplinary artist based in Montreal. His work has been shown across Canada and internationally. A one-time Vancouver resident, Randall was the proprietor of Gallery T.O.O.–a gallery located on Kingsway that held 18 important exhibitions between 1988 and 1989.
