Hot Weather in Store for Southwestern BC

While hot and sunny conditions are welcomed news for most, Environment and Climate Change Canada and Medical Health Officers are reminding residents to take precautions to protect themselves from the heat. Keep cool by:

  • Spending time in an air-conditioned facility (such as a shopping centre, library, community centre or restaurant) for at least several hours every day.
  • Dress for the weather by wearing loose, light-weight clothing. Protect yourself from the sun by wearing a wide-brimmed hat and sunglasses.
  • Avoid sunburn, stay in the shade or use sunscreen with SPF 30 or more
  • NEVER leave children or pets alone in a parked car.
  • Check in on others - People living alone are at high risk of severe heat related illness.

Robert Bigelow: Daily Practice

Opening Reception: Thursday, July 2, 7-9pm

This exhibition features a large-scale installation of recent paintings on panel by acclaimed artist and printmaker Robert Bigelow. Bigelow’s abstract style has developed over a long career with prestigious American print houses such as Gemini G.E.L and the Tamarind Lithography Workshop as well as his work in collaboration with artists Josef Albers, Richard Hamilton, David Hockney, Ellsworth Kelly, Robert Rauschenberg, Bruce Nauman, Claes Oldenburg, Man-Ray, Frank Stella, Robert Motherwell and others.

Opening Reception: Thursday, July 2, 7-9pm
Join us for the opening reception at the Burnaby Art Gallery. The evening will feature opening remarks, followed by a reception in our Fireside Room. This is also the opening night of The Life and Art of Jack Akroyd. Beer sponsored by Steamworks Brewery.

Join artist Robert Bigelow and Assistant Curator, Jennifer Cane for a conversation about Bigelow's exciting and varied career. Hear fascinating stories about his time with prestigious American print houses Gemini G.E.L. and the Tamarind Lithography Workshop and more.
