Hot Weather in Store for Southwestern BC

Posted July 13, 2018

While hot and sunny conditions are welcomed news for most, Environment and Climate Change Canada and Medical Health Officers are reminding residents to take precautions to protect themselves from the heat. Keep cool by:

  • Spending time in an air-conditioned facility (such as a shopping centre, library, community centre or restaurant) for at least several hours every day.
  • Dress for the weather by wearing loose, light-weight clothing. Protect yourself from the sun by wearing a wide-brimmed hat and sunglasses.
  • Avoid sunburn, stay in the shade or use sunscreen with SPF 30 or more
  • NEVER leave children or pets alone in a parked car.
  • Check in on others - People living alone are at high risk of severe heat related illness.

The Many Worlds of Jack Wise

From the Collection: The Many Worlds of Jack Wise
October 5-December 6, 2015
Bob Prittie Library (Metrotown)

This Burnaby Art Gallery Offsite Exhibition features a selection of artworks by Jack Wise reproduced in various media. All of the black and white images shown in this exhibit are from The Many Worlds of Jack Wise, a portfolio of the artist’s then recent work published by The Bau Xi Gallery in the fall of 1967. The large format of the portfolio meant that many of Jack’s works could be reproduced at their actual size. It was hoped that the publication would allow a wide audience access to Jack’s artwork at an affordable price.

In addition to the reproductions shown here, the City of Burnaby Permanent Art Collection includes a dozen original works by Jack Wise, many of which are too large or too delicate to show in the library. An appreciation of Jack Wise by local artist and art historian Gary Sim can be read here
