Career Programs

Artist apprenticeship program

The Burnaby Art Gallery offers a number of Career Placement opportunities for secondary students. For further information about these programs, please contact the programming department at 604-297-4858.

Artist Apprenticeship Program

Secondary senior students take on the role of a professional artist to create an exhibition for a public space. Guided by practising artists, curators, programmers and marketing staff, students create artwork and learn how to develop and promote their show. Students also spend a day touring galleries - from artist-run centres to commercial galleries. Volunteer hours accrued may be used towards career placement programs.

Grades 11 & 12
Fridays, October 26, November 2, 9, 30, December 7, 14, 2018 
9:00 AM–3:00 PM
Free, 6 sessions (*participation required on all days)

Career Placement 

Arts Alive is an annual showcase of works by students held in collaboration with the Burnaby School District. In 2019, Arts Alive highlights works by elementary school students from across the city.

This Career Placement program is for students in Grades 11 and 12, and hours take place from March through May, 2019 at the Burnaby Art Gallery (dates vary). 

The following career placement positions need to be filled (2 volunteers per position):

  • Jury and Photo Documentation 
  • Records and Label Management
  • Virtual Exhibition Creation
