"Peace of Art" Gift Bag Project

Peace of Art

Burnaby community members created their own personal expression of peace on canvas bags to be sent as gifts to children in orphanages in Afghanistan. Students, teachers and staff of Gilmore Community School participated in the project, as well as parents, residents of Seton Villa and community members and groups from all over Burnaby.

The "peace of art" gift bags were filled with bookmarks made by Gilmore students as well as art supplies so that the Afghani children may express themselves through art and create their own expressions of peace on the reverse side of the gift bag. Artists Anna Talbot, Sheila Cano and Valerie Methot facilitated the project with up to 600 community members. Fundraisers were also held in support of the women in Afghanistan who take care of the children.
