Cameron Park Dragonfly Mosaic Project

Park Dragonfly Mosaic Project

Giving back to the community in a public engagement project, The Cameron Seniors Garden Club utilized their knowledge of gardening and familiarity with Cameron park to create the Dragonfly Mosaic Project. With support from the Community Arts Development Program, they took a prominent role and went to three local schools to talk about the importance of insects in the garden and the habitat of Mason bees.

Choosing dragonflies as the theme to go with the dragon Eco-sculpture in the park, nineteen dragonfly mosaics were made by students and community members. The Garden Club then worked with the City of Burnaby to design an accessible garden planter and seating area using the mosaic dragonflies as a feature. The initiative was to involve community in a project that celebrates Cameron Park and gives patrons a sense of ownership of the area and to create a "bumping place" for people to meet.
