Pianos on the Street

Piano in the Park

Pianos on the Street is an innovative, ongoing summer project presented by the Piano Teachers Federation and Sean Pacey (president of Pacey’s Pianos and founder of the Piano Teachers Federation). The Pianos on the Street program places pianos in various open-air locations throughout Metro Vancouver for all members of the public. The goal of the project is to build bridges throughout the community in Burnaby and to bring music into the lives of as many people as people.

A piano has been placed in the Century Gardens of Deer Lake Park, renowned for the City’s Rhododendron display (located between the Shadbolt Centre for the Arts and the Burnaby Art Gallery) where it will remain until the end of September.

The Deer Lake piano was painted by an adult art class from the Shadbolt Centre called Art in Discussion. The class led by artist/instructor Jay Johnson is a discussion based class that helps beginning and intermediate artists develop a personal vision. The volunteer students included Fred J. Bradley, Barbara Calvert, Cindy Fang and David McGuigan.
