2008 Public Safety Award Recipient

Jay Ponting Community Policing Award

Burnaby City Council, based on recommendation of the Public Safety Committee (formerly Community Policing Committee), recognized Mr. Jay Pointing as a recipient of the Public Safety Award (formerly Community Policing Award) in 2008.

During summer 2008, Mr. Ponting responded to a call for help from another passerby regarding a struggle between two individuals in a public space in Brentwood Park neighbourhood.  Mr. Ponting rushed to the scene, pulled the perpetrator off the victim, and held down the perpetrator until police arrived. Despite receiving serious injuries, the victim survived the attack.

Mr. Ponting was recognized for courageously intervening and saving the victim's life.
