Sports Facilities Closure

Effective March 23, all sports facilities within City of Burnaby parks are closed until further notice. This includes all playing fields, tennis courts, basketball courts, baseball diamonds, lacrosse boxes, skate parks and disc golf. More information on city closures »

Metro Skate Park

On one side of the skate park is a Children's Play area which includes a four-seat swing set, tire swing and multi-play climbing structure with slides. A variety of ledges surrounding the playground allows parents and care givers to sit nearby. A colourful wall with community art separates the play area from the skate park.

Community Art Wall

The wall that divides the skate park and playground was created as a truly unique community art project. Teen "Urban Artists" were invited to submit proposals to design the wall facing the skate park. The top three youth artists were then commissioned to paint the final mural. Once the overall design was painted, participating youth clipped, smashed and glued coloured ceramic tiles on plywood to create the mosaic wall.

On the opposite side of the wall which faces the playground, hundreds of elementary schools students from Kindergarten to grade seven drew pictures that were inspired by the word PLAY. Their artwork was then transferred to three hundred tiles that create a mural on the wall facing the Children's Play area.
