What's happening now?

The preferred design concept for the project was presented to Council during the November 21, 2022 Council meeting. You can read the Council report here. As a follow up to the Council meeting, we will be undertaking further exploration and analysis for the preferred option before the project advances to detailed design. About this project

The City of Burnaby is implementing a series of active transportation improvements along Lakefield Drive and 4th Street between Nursery Street in the north to Edmonds Street in the south.

Because Fortis BC’s Pattullo Gas Line replacement project required construction along Lakefield Drive, the City saw an opportunity to build new active transportation facilities for pedestrians and cyclists in the same area.

Through this project, the City of Burnaby aims to improve accessibility and provide opportunities for those who travel in this area to shift to healthy and sustainable modes of transportation—such as walking, rolling and cycling. These active transportation improvements further support the recently adopted Connecting Burnaby, Burnaby’s Transportation Plan and the City’s Climate Action Framework.
