Local Heroes

We celebrate our heroes

The Local Heroes Award recognizes Burnaby residents who have made a positive difference in our community by giving their time as volunteers. This award acknowledges their selflessness, dedication and commitment to doing good every day and making our city a better place. Examples may include volunteering for a local agency or community school, coaching a local sports team, or helping recent immigrants settle into our community.

Application criteria

Candidates must:

  • Live, work or participate in Burnaby and can be from any age group or background.
  • Have contributed to the community for a combined minimum of 5 years through at least 2 volunteer activities.
  • Have the support of at least 2 nominators to be considered.

2021 Local Heroes

Burnaby City Council will recognize the newest recipients at a council meeting in October 2021.

Our 2019 Local Heroes

Six outstanding citizens were named Local Heroes by the council, recognizing their immense contributions to our community.
