Burnaby launches “This is Climate Action” banner

Last updated: October 21, 2021

To highlight the many initiatives that will enable achievement of the City’s commitment to be “carbon neutral” (no longer contributing to the carbon emissions that accelerate climate change) by 2050, the City is launching a “This is Climate Action” banner.

The new banner will identify projects, policies and initiatives designed to reduce energy consumption and use cleaner energy sources – ranging from the addition of Public EV Charging Stations at locations around the city to Green Building policies that require new residential construction to be built to low-carbon standards.

Many of the qualifying projects and initiatives will be found on our Climate Quick Starts page. Some will be led by the City alone; others will be partnerships with the governments and agencies whose support will be needed to fully achieve the 2050 “carbon neutral” target. Burnaby has aligned its climate action targets with those of Metro Vancouver and the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, to maximize opportunities for co-ordination, partnership and cooperation.

“Our new Climate Action Framework details how we will put into action our commitment to achieving carbon neutrality,” said Mayor Mike Hurley. “The ‘This is Climate Action’ banner will highlight those actions, as we work together to sustain for future generations the valued social, financial and environmental attributes of the Burnaby we enjoy today.”
