The City of Burnaby is inviting community input on HOME: Burnaby’s Housing and Homelessness Strategy, a plan to deliver on the vision of a community where everyone can find a home, afford a home and feel at home.
Using data on housing and homelessness in Burnaby, as well as information gathered through the Mayor’s Task Force on Community Housing, the City has developed a set of draft goals and strategies for the HOME strategy. The goals and strategies will guide the actions required to build a more affordable and welcoming community. Through an online survey, released today, the City is looking to residents and other community members to help shape the HOME strategy by providing feedback on the draft goals and strategies.

“Burnaby residents have played an essential role in guiding our actions on housing over the last year,” said Mayor Mike Hurley. “We are protecting and enhancing our rental housing stock, ensuring renters are not displaced through development, and we’re expanding our affordable housing base. The development of the HOME strategy will build on that momentum.”
The online survey closes Thursday, October 15, 2020.
The development of HOME: Burnaby’s Housing and Homelessness Strategy supports significant actions in This is Climate Action, a framework developed to guide how the City will put into action its commitment to be “carbon neutral” (no longer contributing to the carbon emissions that accelerate climate change) by 2050. Actions in the HOME strategy will prioritize housing sustainability and resilience, strengthening links between housing and transit, and supporting sustainable community design and zero-emission residential buildings.
