The City of Burnaby is pleased to welcome Chief Superintendent Graham de la Gorgendiere as Burnaby RCMP’s new Officer-in-Charge.
De la Gorgendiere is a familiar face in Burnaby, as he joined the detachment in 2019 as the Operations Officer, before moving into the role of Acting Officer-in-Charge in February 2021 after the retirement of Chief Supt. Deanne Burleigh.
“Public safety is a priority in Burnaby and we know our city will be well-served by Graham’s strong leadership and experience. We are pleased to welcome him to this position and look forward to working together to further strengthen public safety,” said Mayor Mike Hurley.
As the Officer-In-Charge (OIC), Chief Supt. de la Gorgendiere oversees the detachment and is responsible for Burnaby RCMP’s operations and administration.
De la Gorgendiere began his career with the RCMP in 1997, and has served his entire career in the Lower Mainland.
“It is the highest honour of my career to serve as Burnaby RCMP’s Officer-in-Charge,” de la Gorgendiere said. “I am looking forward to leading the detachment forward and building relationships within our community. I am proud to work with our experienced and diverse staff of police and municipal employees who share my commitment to serving this community and working together to make Burnaby safer.”
De la Gorgendiere started his policing career in Mission, B.C. Since then, he has also worked for the South West District Major Crimes Unit, the Upper Fraser Valley Regional Detachment, and as an investigator and Accredited Team Commander with the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT).
De la Gorgendiere served as Bronze Commander in the RCMP’s North District during the B.C. wildfires in 2017, and previously served as Chair of the E Division Major Case Management Committee.
De la Gorgendiere also spent two years with the Office of Investigative Standards and Practices and Legal Application Support Team before joining Burnaby RCMP as the Operations Officer in January 2019.
Chief Supt. de la Gorgendiere was appointed to the Officer-in-Charge position after a nation-wide search and consultation with the RCMP and City of Burnaby.
His official start date for the role is October 20, 2021.
