Be a Snow Angel – pitch in to help out a neighbour in need this winter

Last updated: December 6, 2021

This winter, join Mayor Mike Hurley and become a Snow Angel in your neighbourhood!

When the snow starts to fall, it’s everyone’s responsibility to clear the sidewalks adjacent to your property. But not everyone can get out and shovel snow safely.

“Burnaby is a city where we look out for our neighbours,” said Mayor Hurley. “That’s the way we roll. This year, I encourage residents to think about the folks next door who might not be able to shovel their sidewalk. If you can, ask them if they’d like you to adopt theirs.”

Keeping sidewalks clear ensures everyone can get around and reduces the risk of falling, particularly seniors and people with mobility challenges.

Becoming a Snow Angel is also a great way to get to know your neighbours.

So when the snow starts to fall, ask around in your neighbourhood to see if anyone needs a helping hand to keep their property clear. Ensure the extra snow ends up back on the property, rather than on the road.

And always – remember to stretch!
