The City of Burnaby has once again received three awards from an international organization of finance officers, recognizing the City’s achievement in producing high-quality, easy-to-understand budget documents.
Every year, the Government Finance Officers Association recognizes excellence in government accounting with a series of awards and designations.
The City received the Canadian Award for Financial Reporting for the eighth consecutive year, and was also recognized with the Popular Annual Financial Reporting Award and the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award, each for the fourth year in a row.
These prestigious awards reflect the commitment from Burnaby’s Finance Department to help residents navigate the complicated world of municipal finance.
The City is proud of its well-established track record of strong fiscal management and financial stewardship. This year, in an effort to increase understandability and community engagement, the Finance team introduced the Financial Plan Highlights document. This document provides citizens with a summarized and easy-to-read view of the City’s five-year financial plan.
“Congratulations to the Finance Department and Deputy Chief Administrative Officer and Chief Financial Officer Noreen Kassam for continuing to set the gold standard for financial reporting in B.C.,” said Mayor Mike Hurley. “We are lucky to have such a talented group of people here at the City and it is great to see their efforts recognized year after year.”
