City celebrates National Volunteer Week

Last updated: April 22, 2022

In honour of National Volunteer Week (April 24-30), the City of Burnaby sincerely thanks all our volunteers for their commitment, dedication, generosity and selflessness to help create a better Burnaby.

This year's theme, Empathy in Action, highlights the strong connection between volunteerism and empathy. The theme lends itself perfectly to our volunteers, who genuinely care for others. They prove that compassion truly is at the heart of a happy, healthy, and inclusive community like Burnaby.

"We are grateful to all the volunteers who make a positive difference in the lives of others," said Mayor Mike Hurley. "I salute their desire to give back to the community and thank them for their outstanding contributions that make our city a great place to live, work and play."

Volunteers contribute by making time in their busy lives to assist seniors, children and other vulnerable residents who wouldn’t normally get the assistance and support they need. From assisting young families in getting a healthy start in life to driving seniors to places they have to be and buying groceries for those who have trouble leaving home, volunteers go above and beyond to help others.

Thank you again to all the volunteers for everything you do.
