City to close C.G. Brown Memorial Pool October 31

Last updated: September 14, 2022

The City of Burnaby is permanently closing the C.G. Brown Memorial Pool with the last day of operations on October 31, 2022. Built in the early 1960s, the building has reached the end of its useful life and no longer satisfies community needs and expectations.

C.G. Brown Memorial Pool will be replaced with the Burnaby Lake Aquatic and Arena Facility, a new destination recreation facility that will include an accessible (zero barrier) 50-metre Olympic-sized pool with recreational diving facilities and features to support a range of programs as well as a 25m pool, leisure pool and family-sized hot pool.

The new facility will be built on the existing site to meet the community’s future needs, and will be integrated with the existing Bill Copeland Sports Centre to form part of the overall campus of sports facilities and fields within the Burnaby Lake Sports Complex area. All facilities will continue to provide a high-quality visitor experience for years to come.

Come for a ‘Last Splash’

The City will host a Last Splash event at the C.G. Brown Memorial Pool (3702 Kensington Avenue) on Sunday, October 23, 2022 from 12-3:30 pm.

The community is invited to join the City for a day of celebrations and activities to say farewell to the pool after it has served the community for 60 years. No advance registration is required.
