Tree4Free Program

Branch out–plant a tree for free on your boulevard

Here's your chance to enhance Burnaby's urban tree canopy in your neighbourhood–with help from the City's parks department. Through Tree4Free, our parks staff will plant and maintain up to 200 additional boulevard trees each year–on top of the hundreds of trees planted annually through the City’s tree planting program.

If you own a residence or commercial property in Burnaby, you can apply to have a tree planted on City boulevards in front of your property. Please complete the form below.

All applications are reviewed by Engineering for utility conflicts like current or future engineering infrastructure. Then Parks ensures the area can sustain a healthy growing tree before planting. There must be a minimum width of 1.6 meters (about 5 feet) of planting space available on the boulevard.

How to apply

Applications for 2021 are now closed. Planting will occur October 2021 – March 2022.

Stay tuned for our 2022 application period.

The Tree4Free Program contributes to Burnaby’s goal of maintaining healthy ecosystems as outlined in This is Climate Action, the City's plan to fulfil its commitment to become “carbon neutral”–no longer contributing to the carbon emissions that accelerate climate change–by 2050.

The benefits of enhancing our urban canopy include summer cooling in our neighbourhoods and reducing the effects of storm water run-off through improved drainage.
