Central Park Master Plan
The Central Park Master Plan (CPMP) is a long-term plan that will shape the development and enhancement of Central Park, one of the most popular and iconic parks in Burnaby. - In progress
Mintara atop Burnaby Mountain Patio Expansion
In the fall of 2024, Mintara, located atop Burnaby Mountain, will replace its open patio with a new, enclosed one featuring a timber frame and glass roof system. - In progress
Elementary School Traffic and Safety Study
We’ve completed a traffic and safety study around all Burnaby elementary schools to make our streets safer and more accessible for all road users. - Planned
Brentwood Town Centre Plan Amendments
Recent changes to City’s Rental Use Zoning and Child Care Action Plan policies have provided an opportunity to revisit elements of the Brentwood Town Centre Development Plan and Brentwood Site Master Plan. - Planned
Burnaby Mountain Trail Management Plan
In 2019, the Environmental Conditions Assessment identified the need for a trail management plan for Burnaby Mountain Conservation Area (BMCA). The City is developing this strategy to optimally balance conservation and recreation in the BMCA. - In progress
James Cowan Theatre Redevelopment
The new Shadbolt main stage theatre and studios wing in the Shadbolt Centre for the Arts will continue to be Burnaby’s primary professional multi-use presentation space created to meet the needs of our evolving community. This 38,000 sq. ft. facility will replace the existing James Cowan Theatre - In progress
Zoning Bylaw Rewrite
Burnaby is undertaking a comprehensive update of our Zoning Bylaw to modernize and simplify our existing development regulations for all zoning districts and to implement new provincial legislation. - Planned
Outdoor Aquatic Services and Facilities Strategy
We’re conducting a study to explore trends in outdoor aquatics, review fair distribution of outdoor aquatic amenities and plan for future needs as we develop an Outdoor Aquatic Services and Facilities Strategy. - Planned
Liquor and Cannabis Policy Review
We’re reviewing the City’s existing liquor and cannabis policies to establish a new policy that will guide the liquor and cannabis licensing applications process while balancing the needs and the safety of the community. - Completed
Greentree Village Park Pilot Community Garden
We have established Burnaby’s first community garden in a City park at Greentree Village Park. This pilot project is launching in partnership with Urban Bounty, a local nonprofit organization dedicated to community food security. - Planned
RCMP New Detachment
The City of Burnaby and the RCMP are working together to build a new detachment at the corner of Ledger Avenue and Norland Avenue. - Completed
Riverway Outdoor Covered Sports Box
This project upgraded the existing lacrosse box with a new covering to enable the court to be used year-round, with room for covered spectator seating. - Planned
Vancouver to SFU Cycling Connection
We’re improving the Frances-Union Bikeway and Burnaby Mountain Parkway to better connect these routes to key areas, including Simon Fraser University (SFU), the Union-Adanac Bikeway in Vancouver and other local and regional destinations. - In progress

Alcohol in Parks
The City of Burnaby is introducing a temporary pilot program to permit responsible consumption of alcohol by adults in 4 parks across Burnaby: Central Park, Confederation Park, Edmonds Park and Keswick Park. - Planned
Burnaby Housing Authority
The City of Burnaby is proposing a new municipal housing authority to help create more secure, purpose-built housing within Burnaby that would include non-market rental units, non-market ownership units and market rental units. - Planned
Cascade Heights Urban Village Community Plan
The City of Burnaby is developing a new community plan for the Cascade Heights neighbourhood in south Burnaby to shape how this area will redevelop over the mid to long term with a range of opportunities. - In progress
Mayor’s Task Force on Unsheltered Community Members
In Burnaby, our goal is to create a community where homelessness is rare, brief and one time. To achieve this vision, the City launched a Mayor’s Task Force on Unsheltered Community Members in June 2023.
