On September 19, 2022, Lynne Axford, Chief Election Officer for the City of Burnaby, officially declared that an election by voting is to be held for the following offices:

In the 2022 Burnaby local government election, voters will elect 8 city Councillors and 7 School Board Trustees. All offices will be held for a four-year term. 

As the City has only received 1 candidate submission for the role of mayor, Mike Hurley is officially acclaimed to the role and will be sworn in for a new term along with newly elected councillors and school trustees in a ceremony on November 2, 2022.

The City is also seeking your views on non-binding community opinion questions about the dedication of various park lands in Burnaby which will be included on the ballot.

Park dedication community opinion questions

  1. Cariboo and Brunette River conservation lands
    The proposed dedication is an area of approximately 55.66 acres (22.51 hectares) located in the southeast region of Burnaby.
  2. Stoney Creek Park and trail system
    The proposed dedication is an area of approximately 24.67 acres (9.97 hectares) located in the northeast region of Burnaby.
  3. Deer Lake Park 
    The proposed dedication is an area of approximately 29.42 acres (11.97 hectares) located in the southwest region of Burnaby.
  4. Burnaby Lake Park system 
    The proposed dedication is an area of approximately 94.30 acres (38.52 hectares) located in the northwest region of Burnaby. 

Key dates

  • Mail ballots available: September 23
  • Mail ballot applications close: October 6 at noon
  • Advance voting days: October 1, 5 and 8 from 8 am-8 pm
  • General voting day: October 15 from 8 am-8 pm
