Take part in Transformations: Burnaby Lake Aquatic and Arena community art project

Last updated: October 28, 2022

Express what connects you to the local Burnaby Lake landscape through a community art project as the City of Burnaby gets ready for construction to begin on the new Burnaby Lake Aquatic and Arena Facility.

Transformations: Burnaby Lake Aquatic and Arena is a community art project that invites people of all ages and abilities to create pattern art that will inspire the design of a temporary mural for the new facility. The mural will decorate the fencing around the project site on Kensington Avenue as construction activities begin and will be in place in early 2023.

The new destination recreation facility’s design is inspired by the history of Burnaby Lake and the connection and transformation between people and the surrounding landscape over time. With the help of the community, local artist Mary-Ann Liu will use colours inspired by the local landscape and transforming hexagonal shapes to explore these connections as part of the design of the mural.

Get involved at an upcoming community art session between October 29 and November 26, 2022 to explore the connection between people and place with colours and shapes:
