City urges everyone to wear pink on February 28 to combat bullying

Last updated: February 21, 2024

The City of Burnaby invites everyone to observe Pink Shirt Day on February 28, 2024, by wearing pink to honour diversity, kindness and the power in all of us to make a positive difference. Pink Shirt Day, held annually across Canada and the world, raises awareness about bullying and encourages individuals to stand up against hate and discrimination, while also supporting programs that foster children’s healthy self-esteem.

Pink Shirt Day was started in 2007 by two Canadian teenagers who decided to stand up against bullying after one of their classmates was bullied for wearing a pink shirt to school.

One in five kids in Canadian schools are affected by bullying – let’s change that. We encourage you to post a photo of yourself wearing your favourite pink shirt with the #pinkshirtday hashtag to put a stop to bullying.
