Learn about temporary road closures and traffic delays due to road construction or special events on your commuting route.

Glenbrook sewer upgrade

Metro Vancouver will be upgrading the Glenbrook Sewer starting May, 2024. Construction for the first phase will take place on Kingsway, from 16th Ave to 12th Ave, and includes replacing approximately 600 metres of sewer pipe. Work will generally occur from Monday to Friday, between 7 am and 5 pm, and on Saturday, between 9 am and 8 pm. There may be times when crews are required to work extended hours to complete specific tasks and stay on schedule. Construction is anticipated to take approximately six months to complete.

Gilmore Ave road reconstruction

Gilmore Ave between Lougheed Highway and Dawson St will be closed from March 27, 2024 until mid April for road reconstruction work. The multi-use path on the west side of Gilmore Ave will remain open for pedestrian and cyclist use. The contractor will be working extended hours during the week and weekends to reduce the overall duration of the closure.

North Rd sewer upgrades

Metro Vancouver is conducting the second phase of sewer upgrades along North Rd between Lougheed Highway and Austin Ave starting March 2024. During this period the contractor will work day and night shifts, Monday to Saturday, with a break from 4 pm to 7 pm each day. During this break, two north-bound lanes will be open to accommodate peak traffic. To complete specific tasks, overnight work will occur in certain segments along North Rd, and at the intersections where North Rd meets Gatineau Place and Austin Ave.

Douglas Rd water main - Still Creek South Section

Metro Vancouver is replacing the Still Creek Section of the existing Douglas Rd water main. A full road closure along Douglas Rd between Dominion St and Norfolk St from mid-March until May 2024 is needed for water main installation work. Please use alternate routes and follow the direction of signage and traffic control personnel.

6th St: park and school access upgrades

The City will be improving sidewalks along 6th St, Reigate Rd to Burris St (sites 1 and 2) and 6th St, Wedgwood St to Mayfield St (site 3). There may be times when access to residential driveways and parking areas will be restricted due to construction. Please expect delays.

Site 1, 2 and 3 construction is expected to start in the spring of 2024 and complete by the end of 2024.

Please note: our project timeline has been delayed for the area of 6th St, Nursery St to Burris St to allow the First Nations the opportunity to conduct a Post Impact Assessment. This preliminary study will be undertaken to determine the potential presence of undocumented archaeological sites within this area. We are working hard to get the Post Impact Assessment and construction in this area completed by the end of 2024.

Brentwood Town Centre Station Upgrade Project

Traffic will be reduced in both directions on Lougheed Highway between Alpha Ave and Willingdon Ave until summer 2024. Westbound: two lanes will be open until the project is completed. Eastbound: one of two lanes will stay open for traffic.
