Current Closures & Obstructions
Gilmore Avenue and Central Valley Greenway Rehabilitation
The City of Burnaby is undertaking a major road and urban trail rehabilitation project on Gilmore Avenue and the Central Valley Greenway. Closures and detours will be required to accommodate the work in August and September. The project area includes Gilmore Avenue (and the adjacent urban trail) between Dawson Street and the CN Rail crossing at Still Creek Avenue, and a section of Central Valley Greenway east of Gilmore.
Construction will begin in August and conclude by the end of the year.
Due to the nature of roadwork taking place adjacent to CN Rail tracks, concrete must be poured evenly across all lanes of traffic at the same time. As a result, Gilmore Avenue and the Central Valley Greenway on the west side of Gilmore Avenue will be closed to all traffic in both directions beginning mid-August. Pedestrians and dismounted cyclists will be able to use the west Central Valley Greenway between Dawson Street and Still Creek Avenue. The sidewalk on the east will remain closed until Friday, August 21.
During this period, approximately 600 metres of the Central Valley Greenway east of Gilmore will also be closed for rehabilitation. Signage will be posted to assist cyclists to detour along Still Creek Drive.
Upon completion of this phase of construction in September, Gilmore Avenue will accommodate single lane traffic in both directions until the end of construction, and the closed section of Central Valley Greenway will re-open.

Metro Vancouver is replacing the Douglas Road Water Main to continue delivering clean, safe drinking water to the region. One of the final phases of the project is now under construction in North Burnaby. This section is approximately two kilometres long and is located along McGill Street, North Rosser Avenue and Albert Street. To accommodate the work, there will be a temporary road closure along Eton Street from North Madison Avenue to North Rosser Avenue until spring 2020. Metro Vancouver will notify residents of other road closures in advance. Please follow detour route signs and directions of traffic control personnel. Construction is expected to end in summer 2020.
