Burnaby GIS #1 in Geospatial Maturity Index

Last updated: December 15, 2022

The City of Burnaby’s GIS department has once again been recognized as an international leader in their field. After collecting a MISA Spirit of Innovation award in October, Burnaby GIS has been recognized by Public Sector Digest as co-leaders of their Geospatial Maturity Index with an impressive overall score of 96.67% (sharing first place with Halifax, NS).

The index measures the readiness, implementation, and impact of participating municipalities’ use of GIS technology. Notably, Burnaby scored a perfect 100% on our implementation, recognizing the benefits the City’s GIS team provides to departments across the City in visualizing and interpreting complex data sets spatially. As the final report acknowledges, the exceptional training and dedication of Burnaby’s GIS staff enables the City’s GIS services to provide world-class service.

Burnaby GIS is scheduled to continue its track record of innovation in 2023, pioneering projects like high-resolution drone orthomosaics, real-time direct record updates for field staff, and more, continuing to deliver an ever-expanding array of services better and faster than ever before.
